R. Kelly seeks presidential clemency to shorten 30-year sex-crimes sentence
R. Kelly has formally asked President Donald Trump to commute his 30-year prison sentence for sex trafficking and related offenses, filing the request with the Justice Department’s Office of the Pardon Attorney. The Brooklyn jury convicted him on nine counts in 2021, with sentencing in 2022, and his team is also pursuing a new trial alleging prosecutors tainted the conviction by stealing his mail, though it remains unclear whether Trump will grant clemency.
