Farhadi denounces civilian deaths and war at Cannes, urges artistic courage
Oscar-winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi used a Cannes press conference to condemn the deaths of protesters and civilians in Iran and in the regional war as 'extremely cruel and tragic,' saying condemning violence and mourning victims does not mean supporting repression. He urged fellow filmmakers to speak out against the war as his Paris-set Parallel Tales premiered at Cannes with a high-profile French cast. Farhadi, who has lived outside Iran since 2023, has long opposed censorship in Iran.
