DC National Guard ambush suspect hospitalized as health deteriorates
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national accused in the November ambush that killed a National Guard member and wounded another outside Washington, has been hospitalized after his health reportedly deteriorated, including refusals of food and sometimes water. He faces 17 counts and potential death-penalty consideration, with prosecutors seeking access to his medical records to address his pretrial detention. Prosecutors say he traveled from Washington state to scope the National Guard contingent near the White House.
