Australian Dolphin 'Bubbles' Forces Fish to Regurgitate Meals in Novel Feeding Strategy
A bottlenose dolphin in Australia has been documented forcing fish to vomit up their food, a behavior known as kleptoparasitism. Researchers recorded 11 successful instances of this strategy between 2021 and 2025. The study, published in Ecology and Evolution, suggests the dolphin uses echolocation to target fed fish and may be exploiting an easier food source than hunting live prey.
