Year of the Bank: 2026 Bonuses Surge for Wall Street Giants
Johnson Associates projects a 2026 bonus surge across 21 Wall Street job categories, with four out of five roles seeing higher bonuses than last year. Banks lead the way: stock traders and IPO bankers could see up to a 30% rise, M&A bankers and senior executives about 17.5%, and broader corporate staff in double digits, while private credit bonuses may fall as much as 10%. Headcount at the six biggest banks is largely flat, and a PwC survey shows many executives expect staffing to shrink over five years as AI reshapes hiring. The trend has prompted media to dub 2026 the ‘Year of the Bank.’
