AI Chats Could Make Humans More Robot-Like, Researchers Warn
A new AI & Society paper argues that frequent use of chatbots—especially in customer service—could cause people to mirror machine behavior and become more robot-like, a bidirectional process dubbed 'robotoid humanness.' The framework outlines three stages: entering a synthetic social reality, chatbots reflecting the user, and the user internalizing the bot-consistent traits. The concept is theoretical and not yet tested in the real world, but researchers warn about potential impacts on self-perception and ethics as AI becomes more embedded in daily life.
