Dietitians' First Stop on Nutrition Labels: The Ingredients List
Dietitian Natalie Rizzo says the first thing to check on a nutrition label is the ingredients list, since it reveals real contents and helps weed out refined ingredients and non-nutritive sweeteners; the added-sugar line then provides a clearer view beyond marketing. Experts also advise paying attention to serving size and calories, aiming for about 20g of protein per meal and 25g of fiber daily, with no more than about 6–7g of added sugar per serving to support health goals.
