Star Parties Light Up Oregon Nights with OMSI at Two State Parks

OMSI and Rose City Astronomers are hosting free dusk star parties through September at L. L. Stub Stewart State Park and Rooster Rock State Park (9–11 pm, weather permitting; telescopes provided; bring chairs, blankets, snacks, water, and warm clothing). A $10 parking fee applies at the state parks (annual pass if you have one). Event dates include Summer Night Sky on July 18 and Perseid Meteor Shower Watch on Aug. 12 at Stub Stewart, and an Equinox Celebration on Sept. 12 at Rooster Rock; parks close by 11:45 pm. Check omsi.edu for cancellations.

The Perseids are caused by debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle and can be seen as bright streaks across the night sky. The best viewing conditions are expected on the evening of August 11-12, with the moon's absence aiding visibility.
