UK paratroopers airdrop medical aid to Tristan da Cunha amid hantavirus scare
British paratroopers and medics conducted an airborne airdrop to Tristan da Cunha, Britain’s most remote territory, delivering oxygen and other medical supplies after the UK Health Security Agency confirmed one suspected hantavirus case on a British national. Six paratroopers and two clinicians jumped from an RAF A400M that flew from Ascension Island, marking the first time UK forces deployed medical personnel via parachute for humanitarian aid; PCR tests had been delivered to Ascension previously, and Tristan da Cunha—with about 200 residents and no airstrip—will rely on this medical support.
