Santa Ana Winds Fuel Camp Pendleton Blaze, Closing I-5 for Second Day
Multiple wildfires ignited across Southern California on October 15-16, 2026, driven by strong Santa Ana winds. The Henderson Fire at Camp Pendleton grew to over 2,000 acres, forcing the closure of Interstate 5 for a second consecutive day. Simultaneously, the Norte Fire in San Clemente burned nearly 500 acres and destroyed at least eight homes. While the Henderson Fire reached 20% containment by Friday evening, the Norte Fire remained at 0% containment. Officials warned that extreme fire conditions would persist through the weekend, with winds peaking on Friday before gradually decreasing on Saturday.
