Space.com reports ViaSat-3 F2 has reached geosynchronous orbit and fully deployed its large reflector after a Nov. 2025 launch, a key milestone for high‑capacity satellite internet across the Americas as the 13,000‑pound satellite moves into in‑orbit testing to boost broadband capacity.
India's parliament has passed a telecommunications bill that modernizes connectivity and allows for satellite broadband services, including Elon Musk's Starlink, just months before general elections. The bill grants the government power to control telecom services, monitor traffic data, and intercept communication in the interest of national security. It also introduces biometric verification for subscribers, restricts the number of SIM cards per user, and imposes civil penalties for violations. The bill excludes regulations for OTT messaging apps but raises concerns among digital rights activists and privacy advocacy groups due to ambiguity and lack of public consultation. The bill now awaits the president's approval.
Elon Musk's SpaceX will partner with e-commerce firm Jumia to expand its satellite broadband services, Starlink, in Africa. Jumia will sell Starlink's satellite terminals and kits in several African countries, starting with Nigeria. This partnership allows Jumia to have the first sales and distribution deal of Starlink's kits on the continent.
