One-Dose Psilocybin Sparks Months of Relief From Suicidal Thoughts in Depression Study
A small open-label trial of 20 adults with treatment-resistant major depressive disorder found that a single 25 mg dose of synthetic psilocybin, with psychological support, rapidly reduced chronic suicidal thoughts and produced durable improvements over 12 weeks: 75% met criteria for a positive anti-suicidal response and 45% achieved remission by week 3, with depression scores also remaining low; however, lack of a control group, small sample size, and concurrent medication changes limit generalizability, underscoring the need for larger randomized trials.
