Time Crystal Forms First-Ever Link to External Mechanical System
Aalto University physicists linked a time crystal to an external mechanical oscillator, turning a magnons-based time crystal in ultracold helium-3 into an optomechanical system. This first-of-its-kind coupling suggests new ways to build ultra-precise quantum sensors and improve quantum memory, bringing time-crystal physics closer to practical quantum technology as the system maintains coherent motion for minutes before decaying.
