Canada Probes Suspected Indian Involvement in Sikh Leader's Murder

Canada has stated that it is actively pursuing credible allegations linking Indian government agents to the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen an "unacceptable violation of our sovereignty." Canada has expelled India's top intelligence agent in the country and raised the issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The tensions between the two countries, fueled by Sikh separatist activity in Canada, are now threatening trade ties and have put talks on a proposed trade deal on hold.

Saudi and Iran take steps towards restoring diplomatic ties.

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran met in Tehran to discuss the re-establishment of diplomatic relations, which they said would improve security across the region. They discussed trade ties, joint investments, and accommodating Saudi tourists and pilgrims who may be interested in visiting Iran. The two countries agreed to reopen their embassies within two months as part of a China-brokered deal signed in March, but reopening the embassy buildings has proved more challenging. The agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia has begun decreasing tensions across the region, including in Yemen where the two had backed opposing sides in the devastating war.
