Santa Marta talks spark coalition to map fossil fuel phaseout
Nearly 60 countries gathered in Santa Marta, Colombia, to agree on voluntary national roadmaps for phasing out fossil fuels, creating a coalition of the willing that aims to wind down coal, oil and gas, with France the first to publish a roadmap and a second conference planned for Tuvalu next year; major emitters and several petrostates were absent, underscoring the non-binding nature of the effort and the need for momentum ahead of Cop31.
