NASA’s Big Bang power-saving maneuver on Voyager 2, which temporarily shuts off high-power instruments in favor of lower-power ones, should extend its science operations by about a year. Voyager 1, currently in worse shape for power, is slated for a similar energy-saving move in the coming months as both probes head toward their 50th anniversaries (launched in 1977).
