Central Coast Faces Red Flag Warning as Lightning Threat Lifts Wildfire Risk
The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for California's Central Coast (5 a.m.–3 p.m. Friday) due to possible lightning in the Santa Cruz Mountains and surrounding areas, with gusty 40–50 mph winds and little rainfall, raising wildfire risk; a 20% thunderstorm chance and under 0.15 inches of rain are expected. Residents should extinguish fires, avoid sparks, secure equipment, not discard cigarette butts from vehicles, review emergency plans, and keep a go-kit ready.
