Notebookcheck tests Nvidia DLSS 5 on an RTX 5090-powered Lenovo Legion Pro 7; at 1440p and 4K in NBA 2K27, DLSS 5’s neural rendering incurs a noticeable performance hit, but enabling Multi-Frame Generation can push displayed frame rates into triple digits, though results vary by settings and resolution. More titles and broader testing are needed to assess overall value.
A Reddit user tested a gaming laptop on a wooden desk versus a metal table in an air-conditioned room and found temps dropped from about 80–90°C on wood to 75–83°C on metal during Cyberpunk 2077. The likely reason is that many laptops pull cooler air through bottom vents, and a metal surface conducts heat away, reducing heat buildup under the chassis. The metal table does not actively cool like fans or pads, and users should avoid ice or condensation risks. Practical tips include keeping bottom vents clear, cleaning dust, lifting the rear of the laptop to improve airflow, and using a cooling pad if needed in some setups.

Verge’s Prime Day laptop guide assembles the top discounts on MacBooks, Windows laptops, gaming laptops, and PC peripherals. It notes that RAM/storage price pressures have kept discounts from being as deep as in past Prime Days, but notable savings remain across categories—from the MacBook Air with an M5 around $949, to the Asus Zenbook A14 and several gaming laptops like the Zephyrus G14 and Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI—with additional deals on keyboards, mice, and monitors. The piece also mentions Prime Day rival promos (e.g., Best Buy Tech Fest) and highlights updates, such as new deals for the Microsoft Surface Pro 12-inch and Moft accessories.

Savings reach into the hundreds for laptops and desktops featuring powerful CPUs and RTX 50-series GPUs, plus notes on performance, displays, RAM/storage, and overall value to guide shoppers.
ASUS’s ROG Zephyrus Duo is a trailblazing, if extravagantly expensive, gaming laptop built around a detachable keyboard and two 16-inch 3K OLED displays that split duties between gaming and on-screen widgets. It can be configured up to an RTX 5090 with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage, but upgrading GPU only nudges the price higher without more RAM/storage. In practice it delivers strong performance (e.g., 75fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p, 124fps in Control) and surprisingly solid battery life for a dual-display machine (about 13 hours in office tasks; a few hours of untethered gaming with both screens). However, it’s bulky and noisy under load, lacks Thunderbolt 5 and a wired Ethernet jack, and its $4,500–$7,000 price range makes it a niche luxury rather than a mass-market buy.
Intel’s Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus bring modest performance gains (FPS boosts vary by game: ~2% in Red Dead Redemption 2, ~10% Cyberpunk 2077, up to ~24% Borderlands 3) to 2026 gaming laptops, but the standout upgrade is brighter OLED and other high-refresh displays on models like Alienware’s Area-51. That glory comes with a price: base 16-inch Area-51 LCD starts around $3,150, while an OLED version with RTX 5090 and 290HX Plus can hit about $4,900; Asus and Acer are refreshing with higher-refresh OLED/mini-LED panels as costs climb. Availability spans 2026 with updates announced for Q2 and beyond, signaling premium pricing for incremental gains.
ASUS announces the 2026 TUF Gaming lineup: 16-inch A16 and F16 offer two premium display configurations (2.5K OLED at 165Hz or 2.5K IPS at 300Hz with ACR anti-reflection), with the F16 upgrading to Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus; an 18-inch A18 tops the range with up to RTX 5070 Ti and a 2.5K 300Hz IPS display, plus a revamped cooling system featuring second-generation Arc Flow Fans for quieter, more capable sustained performance.
