IMO chief: Iran's Hormuz tolls are illegal and would set a dangerous shipping precedent
The International Maritime Organization’s secretary-general said Iran cannot impose tolls on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, calling such charges illegal and a dangerous precedent for global shipping; he urged de-escalation and the resumption of transit once hostilities end, noting the 1968 traffic-separation scheme remains functional and about 20,000 seafarers are stranded as the strait remains blocked.
