China's Q3 GDP Hits 4.5% as AI Exports Outpace Weak Domestic Demand
China's third-quarter GDP growth accelerated to 4.5% year-on-year, exceeding forecasts and rising from 4.3% in the previous quarter. This performance puts the nation on track to meet its 2026 growth target of 4.5% to 5% without additional stimulus. The surge was driven by a 5.5% increase in industrial production, fueled by strong export demand for AI-related electronics and autos. Conversely, domestic consumption remained sluggish, with retail sales rising only 1.1%. Investment figures showed significant weakness, with fixed-asset investment falling 7.2% and property investment dropping 20.6% over the first nine months of the year.
