Door-Handle Design Triggers Tesla’s Largest Safety Recall in China
China has ordered Tesla to recall about 2.9 million Model 3s and Model Ys built in China (2019–2026) to address retractable door handles, with most fixes delivered via over‑the‑air software updates that lower windows after a crash and new in‑cab warning stickers to help locate and operate emergency door handles; some vehicles will also require camera-related updates. The move is part of a broader Chinese safety push on door-handle design and driver-assistance tech, with separate recalls for imported Teslas and ongoing US regulatory scrutiny of door-handle design.
