The Wall Street Journal reports SpaceX is developing a slim AI hardware prototype thinner than an iPhone, but Elon Musk has denied the claim as utterly false; the piece notes SpaceX’s growing AI portfolio (SpaceXAI from xAI and Cursor) and a rumored device said to run a proprietary OS on a Qualcomm Snapdragon, though it may not reach market.
SpaceX announced it will acquire Cursor’s parent company Anysphere for $60 billion, a move aimed at boosting SpaceXAI by giving developers access to a popular AI-coding platform and additional compute capacity. The deal complements SpaceX’s broader plan to vertically integrate its AI efforts—from compute and energy infrastructure at the bottom to the SpaceXAI model layer in the middle and Cursor as a fast-growing top app—in hopes of closing the gap with frontier players like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google. While Cursor could help accelerate adoption and tooling, SpaceX still faces the challenge of developing high-powered AI models to compete with the best in the field.
Anthropic will use SpaceXAI’s Colossus 1 supercomputer in Memphis, gaining access to about 220,000 Nvidia GPUs and more than 300 MW of capacity to run Claude Pro and Claude Max, as SpaceXAI pursues IPO-scale growth and orbital-compute ambitions amid ongoing cloud bottlenecks and local emissions concerns.
SpaceXAI has signed an agreement with Anthropic to provide access to Colossus 1, one of the world’s largest AI supercomputers, for large-scale training, fine-tuning, and inference to support Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers, with plans to explore orbital AI compute capacity as a next-step scale.
