
Eliminating sugar may backfire on gut health and metabolism
A study presented at ENDO 2026 found that removing sucrose from a low-fat diet in mice worsened glucose control, increased inflammation, disrupted gut microbiota, and showed signs of fatty liver, suggesting that balanced carbohydrate intake supports gut and metabolic health rather than complete sugar elimination.
