Putin's Birthday Gift: Russia's 'Vile' Barrage Kills 32 in Ukraine
Russian forces launched a massive overnight barrage of missiles and drones on Ukraine, killing at least 32 people, including children, in what President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called one of the most 'vile' strikes of the war. The attack, which coincided with Vladimir Putin's 74th birthday, targeted residential areas and military infrastructure, with the heaviest casualties in the northern town of Pryluky. While Ukraine anticipated the assault, its air defenses struggled to intercept high-velocity ballistic missiles, highlighting a critical shortage of US-made Patriot systems. In response, Kyiv launched retaliatory strikes against Russian oil facilities and a Black Sea vessel, while the European Union approved new sanctions targeting Russia's military-industrial complex.
