Europe Faces Historic Drought as Rivers Run Dry
Europe is experiencing its worst drought in years, with record-low river flows across multiple countries (Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom). France’s Le Monde cites critical water levels and the shutdown of several nuclear reactors due to low flow, while the Rhine has hit its lowest level since 1880. A photo series shows exposed riverbeds, dry fields, and disrupted shipping as boats, archaeological remains, and mines are revealed by shrinking waters.
