Apple’s latest Xcode release confirms that the new Apple TV 4K has 8GB of RAM and the new iPad mini has 12GB. These specs were not listed in official product pages but align with previous expectations. The iPhone Duo also has 12GB of RAM. Memory chip shortages have driven up prices for these devices.
Apple's iPhone Duo requires apps to be recompiled for iOS 27 to utilize its large inner display, creating a risk of black bars for unupdated software. While Apple avoided a compatibility layer to maintain a unique user interface, developers face tight deadlines and new constraints, potentially leading to a subpar initial experience for users.
Claude Code for macOS now lets Pro/Max/Team users build, run, and test iOS apps directly in an interactive simulator pane within Claude Code Desktop, requiring Xcode with the iOS platform. The feature, in public beta as of v1.24012.0+, runs locally on macOS (not available for cloud/SSH sessions) and lets users watch Claude interact with the app, tap and swipe, and iterate while the simulator remains open beside the chat.
Apple has acquired Play, the prototyping tool that won the 2025 Apple Design Award in the Innovation category for its SwiftUI-based workflow. Play, which enabled real-time collaboration across Mac and iPhone, has been removed from the App Store since the deal. Apple may integrate Play’s features into Xcode or relaunch it as a new standalone tool, potentially expanding Apple’s developer resources. The move aligns with EU DMA disclosure practices around acquisitions.
Apple is acquiring assets and certain employees from Rabbit 3 Times, the maker of Play—the SwiftUI-based prototyping tool that won an Apple Design Award in 2025. Play is no longer in the App Store, signaling an acquihire. Apple may use the acquired IP to enhance Xcode and SwiftUI workflows, though exact plans remain undisclosed.
Apple kicked off WWDC26 with a 90-minute session showing off new developer AI tools, including a demo where an entire app is built from a single prompt and refined with follow-ups, new Xcode 27 features for upfront project planning, and deeper integration of Siri AI with the Apple Foundation Models, Core AI, and MLX frameworks, plus a locally run 1-trillion-parameter Kimi 2.6 model in LM Studio across Mac Studios.
Apple is preparing to add native support for Anthropic's Claude in Xcode, expanding its AI coding assistant capabilities beyond ChatGPT, with references found in the Xcode 26 beta indicating imminent integration, potentially offering developers more options for AI-powered coding tools.
At WWDC 2025, Apple announced a new version of Xcode that integrates OpenAI's ChatGPT for coding and documentation, allowing developers to connect AI models from other providers via API keys. Additionally, Apple launched the Foundation Models framework for on-device AI, enabling developers to access AI models with minimal code, and demonstrated Swift Assist, a coding assistant for Xcode.
Apple has launched a new webpage called "Develop in Swift Tutorials" with step-by-step guides for developers learning to use Xcode, Swift, and Swift UI, aimed at beginners with no prior coding experience. The tutorials cover topics such as installing Xcode, creating projects, building apps, and experimenting with code. The content is organized into chapters and includes tutorials on data modeling and creating apps for visionOS, accessible through the Apple Developer portal.
Apple is reportedly developing a new artificial intelligence tool to assist app developers, aiming to release it as part of the next version of its programming software Xcode. This move is seen as a direct challenge to Microsoft's GitHub Copilot. The tool is expected to help developers work more efficiently and generate code for testing applications, potentially positioning Apple to compete more effectively in the AI-driven technology space.
Apple is reportedly working on integrating generative AI features into its Xcode programming software and consumer-facing products like Apple Music and Keynote, with plans to release them to third-party developers this year. The company has also released an open-source machine learning framework called MLX and other AI tools, similar to Microsoft's GitHub Copilot, to enhance the coding experience. Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that more generative AI features will be coming this year, and sources revealed that executives demonstrated these AI features for Xcode to Apple's board late last year.
Apple is reportedly planning to introduce an AI-based code completion tool similar to Microsoft's Copilot in its Xcode software, as well as other AI features such as automatic playlist creation for Apple Music and enhanced search capabilities. This move could potentially streamline the software development process for Apple developers and enhance user experiences across its products.
Apple is developing an AI tool for Xcode that will generate code and streamline app creation, similar to GitHub Copilot. The tool will predict and complete code blocks, with plans to release it to third-party developers this year. Apple is also testing AI-generated code for app testing and plans to add AI features to Siri and other built-in apps, including improved Spotlight search capabilities. The company aims to introduce a slew of new AI features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15, with some features not expected for years.
Xcode 15.2 update reveals that the new Vision Pro features 16GB of RAM, but does not confirm the full lineup of storage tiers. While it is known that the device will be available with 256GB for $3,499, reports suggest that configurations with 512GB and 1TB of storage may also be available. Apple's silence on specific storage capacities raises questions about the storage needs for Vision Pro's content and whether 256GB will suffice for most users.
Apple has been granted a patent that outlines how it could integrate machine learning (ML) technology into its Xcode app, potentially allowing it to automatically write code for developers. The patent suggests that ML could be used to complete lines of code, check for bugs, and remove barriers for new developers. By embedding this code-writing tool directly into Xcode, Apple aims to make it easier for developers to take advantage of ML capabilities without the need for additional apps. While the success of Apple's AI efforts remains uncertain, this move could be a major boost for app builders within Apple's ecosystem.
