Oil Pipe Nick Sparks East LA Spill, Hazmat Response Triggers Road Closures
A drilling incident damaged a 16-inch crude oil pipeline in East Los Angeles, releasing up to about 2,000 gallons and prompting a CHP SigAlert, road closures near East Cesar Chavez and Eastern avenues, and a hazardous spill that entered storm drains; cleanup, using sand and pressure washing, is expected to continue all day, while officials say there is no residential safety threat and some nearby schools were affected.
