Endoscopic gut reset could sustain GLP-1 weight loss after stopping the meds
A new outpatient endoscopic procedure called duodenal mucosal resurfacing (DMR) may help people maintain GLP-1–driven weight loss after stopping the meds. In a 45-patient study, those treated with DMR regained about 7 pounds on average (roughly 80% of their weight loss), while a sham group regained about 14 pounds; participants also reported reduced cravings and no serious complications, suggesting a durable metabolic reset that could extend weight-loss benefits beyond GLP-1 therapy. Results will be presented at Digestive Diseases Week 2026.
