Spain Positions Itself as Europe-China Bridge as Sánchez Backs Beijing's Middle East Role
During a Beijing visit, Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced 19 bilateral agreements with China to boost trade, launched a 'strategic dialogue' and urged Beijing to help broker Middle East peace, while stressing Spain's pro-European stance. Sánchez also defended multilateralism and reciprocal trade in a speech at Tsinghua University, as Xi Jinping called for a lasting ceasefire. The trip positions Spain as a pragmatic bridge between Europe and China.
