IOC Approves Crocodile-Infested Fitzroy River for 2032 Olympic Rowing
The International Olympic Committee and World Rowing have officially approved the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton, Queensland, as the venue for rowing and canoe sprint events at the 2032 Brisbane Games. Despite concerns regarding the river’s population of approximately 500 saltwater crocodiles and natural currents, an independent technical assessment confirmed the site can provide fair competition conditions. Queensland Premier David Crisafulli celebrated the decision, dismissing critics as 'elites,' while the venue now moves to final design and construction phases.
