
Speed-climbing icon Jake Whisenant dies after Sierra Nevada fall
California climber Jake Whisenant, known for record-setting speed ascents including a 2,000-foot El Capitan route, died after a climbing-related fall in the Sequoia and Kings Canyon wilderness last week. Rescue crews recovered his body after two days of search operations. His fiancee and friends mourn the loss, and a GoFundMe memorial has been started.
