Yemen government mounts push to recapture Sanaa as fronts widen
Yemen’s internationally recognised government launched a counteroffensive, backed by the Saudi-led coalition, to retake Sanaa from the Houthis as fighting expands across Taiz, al-Bayda and al-Jawf. The Houthis say they repelled the assault and cite casualties, including an air strike on a prison in al-Hazm. The WHO reports at least 728 killed or wounded since Aug. 23 and about 21,000 displaced in Taiz, highlighting a renewed, high-casualty phase with civilians affected and roads into Sanaa being warned about.
