Drone strike near Zaporizhzhia plant claims senior engineer’s life
A Ukrainian drone struck a service car near the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, killing chief engineer Alexander Yakovlev and a driver, according to Rosatom. With the plant under Russian control since early in the invasion, both sides trade accusations over actions that threaten nuclear safety. Ukraine offered no immediate comment; the IAEA condemned the incident as an unacceptable attack on the plant and its safety, while Russia accused the West of sanctions- and escalation-related rhetoric.
