NASA to Pay Four Volunteers for a Year-Long Deep-Space Simulation
NASA is seeking four US citizens or green-card holders aged 30–55 to participate in a 14‑month, year‑long simulated deep-space mission at the Johnson Space Center. The crew will live in two habitats—one simulating a deep-space capsule and the other a Mars-like surface—for about 12 months, as part of a campaign that combines HERA and CHAPEA concepts to test long-duration spaceflight in a realistic environment. Applicants must have astronaut‑like qualifications (degree and STEM or military experience), and the program is slated to begin no later than August 2027.
