PS5 Debuts Free Ad-Supported Live TV Service With 100+ Channels

Sony is launching Live TV on PS5, a free ad-supported FAST channel from Sony Pictures Television, offering 100+ live channels and on-demand programming (news, sports, movies, TV shows, anime) in the US, accessible by signing in under the Media tab > Live TV on PS5. Content includes Fox Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now, UFC, The Walking Dead, Naruto, Death Note, and more, with expansion to Canada and other regions planned later. This adds to the FAST trend alongside services like Roku, Tubi, and Pluto, and follows Sony’s 2020 shutdown of PlayStation Vue.

Disney sells out Super Bowl ads, teases free ad-supported streaming in earnings call

Disney said its Super Bowl ad inventory is sold out ahead of the game, with 30‑second spots potentially fetching up to $9–$10 million, underscoring the premium for live, event-driven advertising. The company also signaled a free, ad-supported streaming option inside Disney+, aiming to reach price‑sensitive viewers. On the earnings call, Disney reported sports revenue up 4% to $4.5B but operating income down 17% to $858M due to high sports-rights costs as NBA contracts roll in. Disney plans to simulcast Super Bowl LXI on ESPN in 2027, the first cable‑channel airing in two decades, and may reserve a few ad windows for mega offers.

Disney Mulls Free, Ad-Supported FAST Service to Expand Reach

Disney is weighing a free, ad-supported FAST offering to reach price-sensitive audiences, boost ad-revenue potential through greater inventory, and funnel Disney+ subscriber growth, with no concrete launch timing yet as the company works to turn Disney+ into a broader membership ecosystem. Disney reported about 132 million Disney+ subscribers and 196 million combined with Hulu as of late 2025, and CEO Josh D’Amaro said the idea is under serious consideration.

Seven essential steps to spot and respond to a stroke

Seven essential actions when you spot a stroke: use the FAST test (face, arms, speech, time), call 999 immediately, stay calm and note onset time, keep the person upright and comfortable, don’t give food/drink or medications before professionals arrive, don’t delay if symptoms pass, and don’t drive them—wait for paramedics who will take them to the right unit. Time is brain, and rapid treatment improves outcomes; resources include the Stroke Association and the stroke helpline.

FAST telescope uncovers binary-origin clue for some fast radio bursts

An international team using China's FAST (Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope) in Guizhou monitored the repeating FRB 20220529 and observed a sudden change in Faraday rotation, signaling interaction with dense plasma and supporting the idea that at least some fast radio bursts originate in binary systems; the bursts release energy equivalent to the Sun’s output over a week, marking a significant advance in understanding FRB origins.

"China's Giant Telescope Unveils Secrets of Black Hole's Relativistic Jets"

China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) has detected sub-second low-frequency radio quasiperiodic oscillations in a black-hole X-ray binary, providing insights into the dynamic features of relativistic jets. The observations, made from 2020 to 2022, revealed transient periodic oscillations and directly linked them to relativistic jets. This marks the first time such oscillations have been observed in a microquasar, opening up new avenues for radio observation and theoretical research of black holes. Additionally, five intelligent robot systems have been approved for maintenance of FAST, increasing its observation duration and efficiency.

"FAST Unveils Groundbreaking Black Hole Phenomenon, Revolutionizing Emission Research"

China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) has made a groundbreaking discovery by observing sub-millisecond low-frequency radio quasi-periodic oscillations in microquasars, revealing a direct correlation between these oscillations and relativistic jets in black hole systems. The findings, published in Nature, provide new insights into the mysterious nature of black holes and open up new avenues for observing and studying black hole emissions.

"Breakthrough Discovery: Giant Radio Telescope Uncovers Evolutionary Link in Spider Pulsar System"

Researchers using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) have discovered a binary pulsar system, named PSR J1953+1844 or M71E, with a 53-minute orbital period. This discovery fills the gap in the evolution of spider pulsar systems, confirming the theoretical path from redback to black widow states. The findings provide new insights into the behavior of these fascinating objects and were published in Nature.

"Revolutionizing Security: The Next Generation QRNG Protocol for Unbreakable Encryption"

Researchers from Nanjing University have proposed and demonstrated a secure and fast source-device-independent quantum random number generator (QRNG) protocol. The protocol utilizes single-photon detection technology and entangled photons to generate random numbers. By certifying the time-energy entanglement through nonlocal dispersion cancellation, the researchers confirmed the security of the scheme. The QRNG achieved a secure generation rate of 4 megabits per second (Mbps), with the potential to reach gigabits per second with advanced single-photon detectors. This development paves the way for practical applications of secure quantum information tasks and promotes the advancement of high-performance and high-security QRNGs.

Exploring the Detectability of Dark Matter with Radio Telescopes and Xenon Recoil Data

Researchers at Tsinghua University, the Purple Mountain Observatory, and Peking University have explored the possibility of directly detecting dark photons, prominent dark matter candidates, using radio telescopes. Their study suggests that radio telescopes could potentially enable the direct detection of dark photons, particularly ultra-light dark photons. The analyses conducted by this team of researchers suggest that the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) in China could discover dark photon dark matter if it is composed of dark photons and is in the right mass region.

Survivor of Multiple Strokes Shares Warning

Bill Ramsey, a Kansas man, had strokes at ages 28 and 33, and still has side effects from them. He waited two days before going to the doctor, not knowing what was wrong. Quick intervention can minimize the long-term effects of strokes in young people. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, someone in the U.S. has a stroke every 40 seconds. The American Heart Association says to think F.A.S.T. when looking for signs of a stroke.
