
Nano-bio hybrid turns sunlight into more efficient hydrogen peroxide producer
Argonne National Laboratory researchers created a BiOCl nanosheet–purple membrane hybrid that uses sunlight, air and water to produce hydrogen peroxide under ambient conditions. The 200 nm-thick nanosheets form a biohybrid system that, under light, channels charge at the nano-bio interface to convert dioxygen and water into H2O2, yielding over five times more peroxide than the semiconductor alone and demonstrating a nanoarchitectonics approach to efficient, mild-condition chemistry.
