White House Sets 2028 Target for Moon-Orbiting Nuclear Reactor
The White House ordered NASA, the Department of Energy, and the Pentagon to develop a nuclear fission reactor capable of orbiting the Moon, targeting a launch-ready date by 2028. The plan aims to enable a permanent lunar presence by providing continuous power where solar is impractical, with parallel efforts to fast-track mid-power space reactors and surface power variants, building on past orbital nuclear experiments and renewed support for nuclear energy.
