AI analysis flags overlooked side effects of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, including menstrual changes
A Penn study used AI to scan more than 400,000 Reddit posts and found that a significant portion of users taking GLP-1 receptor agonists (like semaglutide and tirzepatide) reported side effects—most commonly nausea, fatigue, and GI issues—with about 4% mentioning menstrual changes. The researchers caution that these reports do not prove causation and emphasize broader data collection beyond Reddit to better capture potential adverse effects and inform labeling.
