New research links alcohol-related liver disease to a failure of liver regeneration caused by inflammation-driven RNA mis-splicing and ESRP2 deficiency, trapping cells in a quasi-progenitor state; restoring ESRP2 levels or blocking inflammatory signals in lab tests improved splicing, suggesting diagnostic markers and potential therapies to help the liver recover.
