Reds Star Hunter Greene Set for Elbow Surgery, Out Look Shifts to 2027
Reds right-hander Hunter Greene will undergo elbow surgery to address a UCL issue; whether it’s a full Tommy John reconstruction or an internal brace will be determined once surgeons inspect the damage. Expect a long rehab, with a return likely around 12-14 months, pushing potential return past the 2027 season. This marks Greene’s second UCL procedure (he had Tommy John in 2019). His 2026 season was limited to 27 2/3 innings with a 6.83 ERA, and his absence compounds Cincinnati’s rotation planning as they look to 2027 with Burns, Abbott and others, and may influence offseason moves.
